Last BBQ of the year

My local LCBO is carrying a new product – at least to them.  The wine is Long Flat Shiraz Viognier and it’s quite a good BBQ wine.  I like that the Aussies often put a touch of Viognier  in their Shiraz. Viognier is a white wine that softens and enflorenates the Shiraz.  Also, I’m pretty sure I just made up the word “enflorenates” since my spell check is freaking out on me.

Serve this a little chilled otherwise it comes across a touch too sweet.  Great BBQ wine – and BBQ season is alarmingly close to being over so try it soon.

March Madness – Final Four

They refer to the NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament as  March Madness.  I say getting 8 inches of snow on March 23rd is March Madness! This weekend it’s down to 4 teams – The Final Four. I’ve come up with a March Madness competition that everyone can enjoy.

Steak Shiraz

My favorite Steak Shiraz is available again at your local LCBO store. The Australian Pillar Box Red 2007 is my failsafe wine when I am having  steak.  Sure, you can go with Cabernet Sauvignon every time but this Shiraz seems made for a steak. Maybe it’s the 15% alcohol. The bottle is easy to recognize and the price is right.  It is too tannic to drink on its own – although I do just because it makes me feel manly.
