They did surgery on a grape

They did surgery on a grape.

The internet is exploding with stories about the surgery they performed on a grape.  There are few details about this surgery – likely due to patient confidentiality – but let me summarize what we do know…

  1. There was a grape
  2. And they did surgery on it

So what i find interesting about this is that i write a wine blog and had no idea about the fact that they did surgery on a grape until my daughter alerted me to it. Furthermore, she only has a twitter account so that she can follow Myrna Tellingheusen and The Last Blockbuster – so i don’t really know how she found out before I did.

It really is a magical world that we live in.

All this talk about grapes makes me think about the miracle of social media, surgery, and wine.

If I can offer a suggestion …

Drink Jackson Trigg’s Meritage [Cab Franc, Cab Sauvignon, Merlot blend]. It’s like gene splitting of three grape’s dna. And the splitting of grape dna has to be the next big internet sensation.

Northern Meritage

I just came back from my time in North-Western Ontario battling large Walleye for dining rights and hunting for exquisite chanterelle mushrooms.  That leaves very little time for hunting down red wine.  Fortunately it found me.

My Uncle Ron came through with a sassy little homemade Cabernet Sauvignon that had blueberries in the batch.  I was skeptical – being a self-professed wine snob – but it was delicious. My rule of homemade wine is to always try it when offered – you don’t have to have a second glass if it’s not good.  This was so good that I plan to buy a share of the next batch being made.   Well done Uncle Ron.

My brother came up with the clever idea of calling it a Northern Meritage. Meritage being the name given to blended wines that usually contain Cabernet Sauvignon, Cab Franc and Merlot. In this case the Cab Franc and Merlot were substituted by the blueberries.  Hopefully a new batch is coming my way so that I can bring a bottle to a party near you.
